Mt. Hood Skiing -

Ski resorts are in no short supply on the spectacular slopes of Mt. Hood.  Timberline Ski Area is the highest spot on the mountain- and the only resort to be be open year-round in the lower 48.  It is rich in downhill, skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding opportunities. 

Mt. Hood Meadows is home to over 2,000 skiable acres, including the Nordic Center where you’ll encounter Mt Hood’s best cross-country skiing.  Serious skiers will flock to SkiBowl, which has the most expert ski runs on Mt. Hood. Discover 1,500 vertical feet of skiing and one of America’s largest lighted ski areas at this superb ski area that is closest one to Portland.

Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area -

Outdoor enthusiasts will have trouble containing their enthusiasm for this gorgeous recreational paradise.  Outdoor activities range from hiking, biking, and golf to whitewater rafting, kayaking, and windsurfing.  The area also attracts bird watchers and photographers.

One of the highlights of the Columbia River Gorge is the many incredible waterfalls.  The second largest river in North America, the Columbia begins in northern Idaho and southeastern British Columbia and makes its way more than 1,200 miles to the Pacific Ocean.

Oregon Coast Attractions -

Taking a drive to the coast from Portland and exploring the many attractions and historic towns is a great way to spend the day.  It’s about 100 miles but definitely worth the trip.
  • Astoria -

    Travel along Highway 30 to the coast and you’ll come upon the town of Astoria, the oldest settlement west of the Rockies.  Discover Victorian-era homes, the Flavel House Museum, Liberty Theatre, reconstructed Fort Clatsop with living history demonstrations, and the 125-foot Astoria Column, which provides awesome views along with murals of Oregon’s early history.
  • Seaside -

    About 15 miles south of Astoria on Highway 101 is the quaint village of Seaside.  Everyone loves the two-mile-long oceanfront promenade that overflows with amusement park-type activities.  Seaside is also home to the End of the Trail Monument, which marks the westward end of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
  • Cannon Beach -

      A few miles down Highway 101 is Cannon Beach where surf fishing and beachcombing are popular pastimes.  You’ll want to check out Haystack Rock, one of the world’s tallest monoliths.  When you’ve had your fill of the beach, you can come into town and browse the art galleries and shops.
