Dora Barrios - Employee of Year - 2009!

Dora (Pictured) began 2009 as a part time turndown attendant; however, she is not new to the Heathman team, she just had her 6 year anniversary! She applied for the turndown supervisor position in May and was a stand out candidate. After being promoted she quickly improved the guest service turndown scores, bringing our score up 40% quarter over quarter. Her positive demeanor and can do attitude has been a breath of fresh air to our evening team.

Eddie Bunn- (not photographed) Our November 2009 winner of employee of the month, Eddie Bunn is always willing to help out when needed. Even though he is behind the scenes, working as a laundry attendant, he definitely contributes to the overall daily success of The Heathman Hotel. Working at The Heathman for 8 years, Eddie is a committed employee who arrives to work in a timely manner, with a huge smile, and a positive attitude!  Eddie is kind to a fault and one of the most loved employees on our team.

Nathan Markiewicz- Our December 2009 winner, is a four year employee of the Heathman Hotel.   Nathan is our morning Manager on duty as well as our December 2009 employee of the month. Nathan brings a great sense of humor to our morning stand up meetings. He consistantly delivers unbelievable guest service, and is an "expert" on the city of Portland. His organizational skills and devotion to detail is remarkable.  

Philanthropy & Community Involvement

The Heathman Hotel is and its employee team are committed to the local community.  In fact, the Heathman was recently recognized for its overall commitment to non-profits by the Portland Business Journal.

In January 2010, the Heathman Hotel provided a donation to SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) as part of its very unique 2009 “We Give Back, So Can You” campaign. During the month of December, the hotel asked each overnight guest to select a Portland-based community organization to receive a donation from the hotel and the organization that received the most votes, in this case SMART, received a check in the amount of $1,000.   This is just a small example of the many ways we support our community.  Business for Culture and the Arts (BCA) also recently named the hotel as a top philanthropic organization within the Oregon Business Community - the only hotel that made either list.
