Portland, Oregon Travel Oregon Forever - Go Green and Save Green!
Environmental awareness is part of life in Portland and part of our culture at The Heathman Hotel. That awareness and an active citizen population earned Portland the title #1 Green City in a recent study by SustainLane, an online resource for sustainability. The “Green” City is also #3 in a recent report by Earth Day Network.
The Heathman Hotel is committed to “Going Green” and reducing our carbon footprint. The sustainability of our environment is extremely important to every colleague at the Heathman Hotel. Our latest news is that as of February 2011, the Heathman Hotel was awarded the Green Seal Silver Certification. The hotel and restaraunt team members worked together for over a year to achieve the Green Seal Silver Certification. Green Seal is a non-profit organization that uses science based inspection tools and programs to empower consumers, and identify and promote sustainable companies. Green Seal certification is only achieved after a detailed inspection by a representative from Green Seal.Our newest package, Travel Oregon Forever, touts our commitment to environmental awareness and our efforts to help reduce our industry carbon footprint. With every package we book, we will donate $100.00 to the Oregon Forever Philanthropy Fund from the room rate, and match the donation with an additional $100.00!
In addition to being Green Seal Silver certified, The Heathman Hotel was the first hotel in downtown Portland to be recognized by the Energy Trust of Oregon for the commitment to the environment. Furthermore, the Heathman Hotel was the first hotel in downtown hotel to partner with Pacific Power's renewable energy program; 30% of all the electricity used by our guests and employees originates from carbon neutral wind energy! This unique partnership between Travel Oregon, Sustainable Travel International, and the travel industry is the first of its kind in all 50 states! Oregon Forever connects businesses and travelers to projects that improve the natural environment and support local culture. It focuses on projects that directly benefit the traveler and the community. Projects include coastal habitat rebuilding, trail maintenance, and the planting of trees in the city of Portland.

The Heathman Hotel has been giving back to local non-profit and community organizations for over eight (8) decades. In the last ten years The Heathman Hotel and its team have donated more money and in-kind services to local non-profits than any other hotel in Portland! In 2009 we donated over $50,000 in products, services, and volunteer hours.
Community, Art, History, and the Environment are of significant interest to the Heathman Hotel team. We are committed to making a difference and leaving a legacy that will last for a life time. Each quarter we partner with organizations that have a similar legacy of commitment.
This collaboration allows our guests an opportunity to give back, learn, and make a difference while enjoying a truly unique Portland experience! Our efforts to connect guest with an opportunity to make a difference were recently featured in the Sunset magazine article, Traveling with a Heart!
The Forest Park Conservancy Project -

Forest Park makes up 47% of Portland Parks and Recreation land. Covering over 5000 acres, Forest Park is the nations premier urban forest. Situated just 10 minutes from The Heathman Hotel and downtown Portland, the park provides the hushed and peaceful environment of a varied and evolving forest ecosystem.
The Forest Park Conservancy coordinates and organizes a number of programs which help to keep the trails and natural habitat of Forest Park enjoyable and healthy. The programs include the removal of invasive species, clean up, National Trails Day, Discovery Hikes, and weekly volunteer work parties.
